The Waffle Stitch is a gorgeous, squishy stitch that is almost as delicious as its namesake. If you can make the double crochet, you can make this stitch!

Im so in love, I used to only do variations of two stitches. I have recently added two new ones.... so excited. You are an excellent teacher, I didn't even have to slow down the video!

thank you - great photography = clear, in focus, and your hook speed is slow enough for a viewer to follow what you are doing.

I’ve always love the waffle stitch but I thought it alternated front AND back post dc! So your video and explanation made it soooo clear and I’m now going to do a scarf with my first waffle - ty so much for an explanation video!

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I've been going insane trying to master it! I think it was your explanation of the stitch above the front post that sealed the deal! 🎉

pro tip - when edging your piece, on the wobbly sides, evenly place three edging stitches (I used single crochet) for every two rows.

each little box is technically 3 double crochet wide (the raised fpdc, plus the two regular dc that make the waffle box indent), so if you are crocheting down the wobbly edge and you stitch 2 single crochet for every row of double crochet, your edge will be slightly too many stitches for the actual length of the piece, and will turn out bulky and rippley. I learned this the hard way.

3 edge stitches (sc in my case) per every two rows (one waffle box is formed vertically every two rows) is not only proportional to the amount of stitches that forms a waffle box horizontally, but lays nice and flat and looks very pretty. I’m not sure exactly how to explain this, so if you have a question, feel free to respond to this comment. but honestly I’m just leaving this here as a note to myself for the future. and I thought it could be helpful for anyone else.

btw, lovely video, wonderful tutorial, very pretty end product. thanks sm!!

Thanks, I’m trying to find videos of various stitches. I’m just learning and am currently working on SC (U.S.). I’m doing well with it and have a blanket started with SC (about 60”x15) so far. When I get back from vacation, I’ll start learning a new stitch. I’m thinking either the DC or the Tunisian Crochet. Eventually I’ll know several stitches to make neat patterns.
