FEMA: I am a former FEMA contract inspector. 1) a person has to file a claim before any money can be distributed. This is done to identify victims and also reduce the ability to commit fraud. 2) Then an inspector like me, calls the homeowner and makes an appointment to meet the person at their home. This cannot be accomplished if the roads are impassable, etc. (remote inspections are possible but not the norm). 3) the damage report is filed the same day as the inspection is performed. 4). FEMA processes the report which can take several days depending upon the size of the damaged area. For instance, during Hurricane Harvey we were sending into FEMA up to 8, 000 inspections per day. It takes a lot of manpower to process that many.
In my opinion, FEMA personnel are the most dedicated, hardworking ( we’d work sun up to sundown 7 days a week), and caring organization that I have been associated with in my 72 years.

I am in Florida. I have lived all my life in Florida. I am currently 57 years old and live through more than enough hurricanes than I care to remember I live through more tropical storm than I care to remember, and I know from personal experience and a fact that, you always get an emergency payment for emergencies in the beginning and then they take care of you so I can say for certainty is that I am ashamed and shocked that people are saying this just to get a step ahead of the Democratic Party and the administration, the fact that they are willing to say thisis shameful

I am in Florida, living on a street with several flooded homes. There are several local areas where FEMA is handing out supplies and helping with filling claims.
Regular insurance doesn't handle floods. We have seen insurance adjusters at home in this week following the hurricane. Please stop this political nonsense. We don't need Trump causing more chaos. Let the people do the work they need to.

I worked with FEMA for two years following 2018 California fires. FEMA is there to help people that do not have resources. Their job is difficult and stressful, but the personnel in the field are truly there to help the best they can given the constraints of FEMA's policy.

There were Haitians in Louisiana after Katrina doing work to help us on our feet. We received FEMA money as well! Food, water, MREs. Federal food stamps.
