There is a glitch in emerald using the pomegranate berry where you can get the events without using any additional hardware. Very cool and I would argue legit to still get these pokemon

Thank you so much for talking about the sentiment of "living in the wrong side of the world" in regards to Pokemon. Just reading about all the missing content, like the old man's house in Mossdeep, or the e-Reader berries, as well as the Old Sea Map, made me feel bad for something I had no control over, just like you mentioned. And it's important to share that sentiment with most people, who probably never understood how huge of a problem splintering Gen 3 was when it first came out.

Also regarding Colosseum and XD: you get Ho-oH in colosseum for completing not just the entire story mode - including capturing *every single pokemon in that game - but the entire battle mode as well. And Lugia in XD after completing the entire story mode. So, i think it'ss probably worth trying to capture as many of the pokemon in those games as possible because you will have to complete the game anyway.

As someone who lives in south america, I can completely relate to not having any gaming related events in your country.
Thankfully piracy is wide spread here and some stores will just sell hacked versions of the game (or hack it for you).
Trying to figure out what they were doing got me into game modding.

I grew up with Gen 3 Pokémon and never felt that problems because I somehow never wanted to "catch them all". But I have to say in retrospective, it is a shame that they did not include Deoxys in Emerald from the beginning. So having a full post-game episode on Deoxys in ORAS was really heartwarming for me, as somehow the circle was closed.

Also, Colosseum and XD are awesome. I play one them once a year, the double battle only system makes it so much fun.

As a heads up, there's a glitch in Fire Red/Leaf Green where if the roaming legendary uses Roar, it will disappear forever. You'll need to keep that in mind if that's your target for getting them.

I couldn't possibly relate more to all the points you made in this video. I played only ruby as a teenager and I couldn't possibly afford to buy x7 games plus an extra console back then, let alone travel to different countries just to get exclusive-event Pokémon. And that really felt disappointing and unfair at the time (and still now because event won't occur anymore).

Really exited to see your living dex challange, keep up the good work Lyra!

Hello from a tiny island across the atlantic. I 100% felt your pain with 3rd Gen. And your optimistic take on attempting to complete the living dex many years later brought a smile to my face. I wish you the best of luck on your journey! And you've also got yourself a new subscriber. Cheers!

Pokemon XD is genuinely one of the best games I've ever played. Maybe I have my nostalgia glasses on, but it was a really good deviation from the traditional formula and had tons of its own unique heart and soul.

Colosseum and gale of darkness actually do stand on their own, I highly recommend trying them

Colosseum removes the need to replay the Gen 1 remakes and Emerald, since you'll gain access to all of the Johto starters and Legendary Beasts through it alone.

Colosseum and XD are really fun games! Unique experiences in the series that are worth a play.

i think events are cute in theory (i treasure the memories of getting my manaphy at toys r us) but get real grating real fast. I cant be the only one who was extremely annoyed that cresselia was available without events while darkrai the inifinityly cooler one is locked behind events

As an Australian who for gaming purposes is basically European (although there's some weird times we don't get some games even Europe does!), thank you for telling everyone about how awful events were and how bad it is some games just never came out here and there's no readily accessible, legal way to play some of them.

Something often overlooked is that, midway through the generation, there was a massive shakeup in the way the series was ran in the West. Notably, The Pokemon Company took advantage of the lull in the series to essentially consolidate and centralize their control over things.
Wizards of the Coast lost control of the Trading Card Game to them after Skyridge(leading to Jamboree being cancelled mid production), merch was brought in house and taken away from other companies like Kellogg or BBs, and the anime was taken away from 4kids and had the entire original voice cast fired suddenly after Season 6. This was very controversial at the time, and rightly so(It lead to a massive disconnect in the cards, hurt merch sales for a bit, and the original voice cast in English got screwed over), but it probably made things smoother down the line.

10:20 Deoxys being promoted by IRL space exploration actually is a pretty clever and cool idea IMO

I never cared about Pokémon as a kid, but in my teens I started to. And somehow Gen3 hit me like a truck.
Both the remakes and RSE looked much more awesome than the 2 previous gens.
I played them later in retrospect but I always liked the Gen3 pokémon the most and the games feel so clean to play

Gen 3 was a very experimental era, which doesn't change how money grabby they were but I'd say Nintendo as a whole was experimenting with a lot more concepts and ideas then which is why there was quite a few gamecube to gameboy connectivity games. Pokemon was just the easiest to slap these concepts onto like the E Reader for example

Gen 3 felt like it lasted forever, but in a good way. So many good games in just a few years made it feel so long. Now it seems like I blink and there's another generation

When I was a kid playing Gen 1, 2 & 3 I had no idea about events. I saw the pages on Serebii of the Lugia, Ho-oh, Jirachi & Deoxys events but I had no idea how they worked as I was 9 years old.

Compare that to my experience when I was a year younger playing Pokémon Gold & finding Lugia at the bottom of the Whirl Islands when it wasn’t even the box legendary. Absolutely shocked me & I loved it.

Emerald and Sapphire were my first Pokemon games. Emerald I had at my mom’s and Sapphire at my dad’s (divorced parents, yes). I also got Firered at dad’s place later on. I didn’t have many friends and was too shy to ask parents of i could trade pokemon with friends or ask the friends themselves (until I got Pokemon Pearl years later). So I completed as many things in gen 3 as I could on one GBA all alone. Then reset them and do it again. That was pretty much a lot of my childhood in early grade school.
