The Russians leaving their country for Finland - BBC News

Some Russian people are anxious to get out of the country because there has been a persistent rumour that President Vladimir Putin's government might soon introduce martial law to deal with demonstrations against the invasion of Ukraine.

With flights to Europe halted, the only way out of the country is by car - crossing this border - or by train.

Putin didn't want NATO on its borders. Threatens neutral countries. Neutral countries want to join NATO in response. Brilliant persuasion skills, Putin!

The increased positive attitude by the finns to join NATO is not DESPITE Putins threats but DUE to them. Same goes for Sweden.

This is the reason people of every country should have the means to keep their "leaders" in check. In every country we have power hungry individuals in leadership positions willing to cause great harm for their own percieved gain and their own people suffer first.

Every day there are cars passing through the Finnish-Russian border. The scene at 1:30 showing a line of cars waiting to cross the border is effectively business as usual in both directions. All should know this - We Finns are fiercely patriotic and we would fight just as hard as the Ukranians, if we had to!! My grandfather died defending our country in the Winter war. There is NO WAY we would EVER yield to anyone! I hope it never comes to that.

I am an American grandmother- we are very happy for Finland and Sweden to join Nato. I have been reading quite a bit regarding Finland and Sweden. I did not know Finland has such a powerful military. Both are beautiful countries We will continue to pray for peace. I am so sad for the Ukrainian people. Very strong good people.

When Finland and Switzerland take a side in this caliber of a dispute, Putin should take time to think about how unpopular this war is.

We as a Finns do not want any conflict with Russia. We want peace. But, were 100% ready to give everything for our country if we need to do it in any situation. Our independence and freedom has come with a great sacrifice. We have a history against this big invader and we have always known that you can never be sure what happens in that country. For a long time we have build good relations with Russia and many Russians visit here and live here also, but the real fear is that powers inside Russia are dreaming about expanding their borders. Fantazising with history. We are not the ones to expand them with. We hope that Putin comes to realise that its not good for their country and to anyone to attack neighbour countries. He has nothing to win and everyone wants to live in peace. Nowadays we have really good defence for the size of our country and were only going to make it better all the time, with Sweden and EU. To Putin: No one want wars in Europe, so chill. Peace.
