We'll talk about the Nikon 85mm f/1.4D, Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G, and Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS.

I want to sincerely thank you for making these videos. I learn best by watching instead of simply reading. Because you have taken the time and effort (not to mention the expense) to make these videos, you now have a new, loyal customer. You will be my go-to place for all equipment because I have gotten so much additional value from these tutorials. Thanks!

This is the best explanation of aperture I've seen. Very clear and concise. Great job, Mark.

Good math, Mark! Now I remember why I loved my Tokina zoom lens that I bought in '80. It has constant aperture! I had completely forgotten about that. My el cheapo Canon zoom lens (not an L model) isn't constant and that was bugging the heck out of me.

I always see aperture as fractions. So f4 to me is like 1/4th the size of the lens. f1.8 is 1/1.8 the size of the lens. Makes it wee bit easier to understand what's happening... Although that's not how f-stop is calculated.

Think of division. 1/2 is twice as big as 1/4.
1/2 is 1 half = 0.50. 1/4 is a quarter, = .25
when you see f/ think of that is the beginning of a fraction.
i.e. f/2.8 is a bigger aperture (hole opening) then f/3.5.
