Ray Toro - For The Lost and Brave

“I wrote this song about a year ago, waiting to release it on my record when it was complete. There have been many times that I’ve almost put it out, but have always found a reason to hold it back. But lately there seems to be so much hate and misunderstanding in this world.

As I’m sure many of you felt after reading the news of young Leelah Alcorn taking her own life, my heart sank. I felt sick. Yet another young life gone because of not being heard, not being understood, and not being unconditionally loved for who they truly were. After hearing her story, and reading her final Tumblr post, I finally felt it was time to share this song.

It is time we learn to accept each other for who we truly are. Being seen, heard, and truly loved as our authentic selves is something we all want, and something we all deserve.

For The Lost And Brave.” - Ray Toro

I was reading Leelah’s Wikipedia page when I saw Ray made this song for her, and I had to listen to it. As a trans youth myself, I appreciate this song more than anyone can imagine.

"The man behind the glass says 'Girl, you're something.'"
One of my favorite lines in this song.
Definitely one of my favorite songs I have ever heard.

Ths is utterly amazing. This has to be one of my favourite songs, it's so deep, meaningful and simply beautiful...
People need to hear this.
People need to accept each other for who they truly are.
All this hatred in the world needs to stop.

R.I.P. Leelah Alcorn.

We will change this world, together.

So all of his songs catch me off guard. They are always so deep and so beautiful, and if I could tell Ray now, I'd say please keep making music like this. There aren't many individuals who either have the guts, the talent, or the heart to create such personal and loving songs, and I completely respect him for it. The world needs more people like Ray. Thank you so much <3

I agree with you Ray 100%. Back in late 2014 when Leelah Alcorn died it was extremely sad to hear for a lot of people myself included. I have to be honest right now My Chemical Romance is my all time favorite band because both you and Gerard Way as well as the rest of the band members are simply awesome people plus alternative music is just simply awesome. I know this is over 4 years old but RIP Leelah Alcorn. We need to accept people for who they are like you said. Parents who take their children to conversion therapy to "fix" them as they'd say are simply monsters. Thank you Ray for writing this song and thank you MCR for helping people out during tough times.
