In the last video you will learn how to make a 12v DC battery operated soldering iron using a dead 13009 NPN power transistor.

I think a standard light dimmer is not designed to handle inductive loads. So, yes initially it works, but long term it will likely fail prematurely.
The dead power transistor trick is very interesting. How much current is it pulling?
