This was my daughter lol She was admitted to a teaching hospital and docs were kinda baffled until a GUEST professor, who also happened to be the ONLY expert in the ENTIRE HEMISPHERE on a rare condition, glimpsed her chart. Before we know it there is a literal parade of med students lining the hall so they could all get to come into my daughters room, look at her and ask 1-2 questions, then cycle out for the next group! My kid was like a pop star receiving fans for almost 2hrs! It was insane
EDIT: Thanks for all the concern and well wishes! My kiddo is just fine now, and her condition is well controlled.

I just love new doctors. Fresh and ready to learn. When I first met my new rheumatologist, I told him my gene results for EDS, and he said “type 9??!! I’ve never heard of THAT one before” And that’s how I knew he was the one ☺️

Even further behind the students are the hoards of residents wanting to write a case report for their fellowship of interest

Ahh man, that’s going to be me in a week. I just got diagnosed with a super rare tumor. (Like 200 cases or less per year) And I’m going to get my treatment at a teaching hospital.

It’s ok though, they gotta learn somewhere. May as well be me.

it's not just their curiosity, it's the pressure to be curious....You'd look lazy if you didn't go and evaluate the patient. I would go and eval the patient even though I have seen one before.

First hand experience. “Would you mind if some medical students observe this?” 15 people show up! 😳 I have a Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Happy to educate anyone and glad they want to learn!! (This music does play in my head though).

This happened to me - was hospitalized and suddenly had a room crowded with students to look into my eyeball and see a rare symptom. I burst into tears lol and they hurried everyone out. This short makes me laugh though - humor really is healing

I have Ehlers-Danlos and Ankylosing Spondylitis ( woman, HLA-B27 negative, auto fusion of spine) everyday I had med students and their teacher (Jefferson hosp.Philly) surround my bed asking me questions, I felt like a Zoo animal 😂 🦓

this is so true😂 got a patient with dextrocardia and some murmurs the other day, my friend and I slowly walked towards him when he suddenly gave us that stare as if he was warning us not to approach him, but we did anyway and he was in fact nice enough to let us examine him quickly… he did say we were the 25th or 26th student that approached him in these 2 days.. felt so bad for it but this is the way we learn so we are really grateful for all those patients who allow us to learn from them❤️

It almost hurts how true this is... but I can't blame them as, uh.
That's me, too.

This was me at 15 lol, my ortho brought like three med students into the room to show them my "perfect example of the swan-neck deformity in Ehlers-Danlos

As someone with a rare condition, I can confirm. Every time I go to a doctor I am guaranteed to hear one line.

“Do you mind if we have some med students sit in?”

I totally feel like this is me! The hospital that I go to doesn’t have a teaching program, but I have a rare enough autoimmune disease that residents and nurses will come to my room. I welcome it. If anyone can learn something from me, then it’s not all for nothing!! 💗💗💗

This has been my experience as the patient. 🤣 The experience becomes a lot more interesting when the attendings and department heads also act like this.

Idk, but I think the fact that you’re using dolls makes this so much more funnier 🤣🤣

My axenfield reiger makes for such interesting formations in my mesh that the Ophthalmologist jumped and said "we've waiting for someone as interesting as you" before running off to get ever student resident and fellow to look at it
