In 1989, I was an exchange student in Belgium. When I came to Antwerp and for the first time saw Jews in traditional attire, I stood in awe.. I learned there is a thriving Jewish community in Antwerp, a Schtetl, with quiet streets on Sabbath and buzzing activity on sunday. I felt like weeping for joy and thankfulness. There are still Jews in Europe!

I worked in a Jewish community in England some years ago and I used to feel a sense of peace in every house . Little did I know I would be given a Jewish name 20 years later as a blessing . I am a Russian Jew, born in Moscow and moved to Israel since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. I am only 24 and I’m just speechless on the topic and no one can imagine what a rollercoaster of emotions has my recent life been. I was against the policy of Ru since I was like 14 and started to get into what was really happening. I never even voted for them, neither did my family. I wasn’t raised in a religious family, we all have progressive values and never in my life I could’ve imagined something like this happening to my people. We’ve travelled the whole world and never could’ve we in a bad dream imagine that war will happen. I’m desperate for PEACE in the whole world. I just don’t understand how two nations that were brothers were cocked and slain. I am Jewish and I have cut all ties with Russia. Unlike there, the war here is holy. We are fighting against terror, against beasts with no human values. We are fighting for our future, for our kids, for our country. For our right to exist. Antisemitism shall remain in the past. The Jewish people have lived amongst us in India for many centuries. They are entrepreneurial, progressive, well educated and gentlemanly! The best people any nation would wish for. Unfortunately many of our Jewish people migrated to Israel... yet they still hold on to their Indian cultural roots proudly!

I’m British but my great Grandmother was a Jew who left Germany just before the 1st world war due to persecution. I didn’t realise how much anti-semitism there is in the world. Especially on the left. My heart goes out to Israel in this difficult time.
