For that’s the year that the W Sydney is set to make its debuts. It will be the third W hotel in Australia, following the W Brisbane (now open) and the W Melbourne (also planned for a 2020 launch). The hotel will mark the re-entry of W Hotels Worldwide (part of Marriott international) into Sydney and will be part of ‘The Ribbon’ development, designed by HASSEL; a build which is expected to completely transform the existing Darling Harbour precinct.
The comeback
“Sydney – with its glamorous energy, cultural diversity and statement architecture – is the perfect match for W Hotels,” says global brand leader of W Hotels Worldwide Anthony Ingham. “Wherever my travels take me I am asked again and again when we are returning to Sydney, and I am thrilled to finally be able to answer the question. With the long-awaited return of the W brand in Sydney, Australia will now have three W hotels, along with W Brisbane and W Melbourne – demonstrating just how important and exciting this continent is for global travel.”
The hotel
The W Sydney will feature a collection of 593 stylish guestrooms, suites and serviced apartments. There will also be an accompanying WET DECK ®; the brand’s iconic pool deck which will boast views of neighbouring Darling Harbour. A restaurant, two bars, a Spa, a state-of-the-art gym, and 925 square metres of event space (grand ballroom included) will round out the offering.
The Ribbon
“W Hotel’s boundary breaking approach to luxury is a worldwide phenomenon, and there is no better city than Sydney to shake off convention and shake up the way it’s always been done, ” says senior director hotel development of Marriott International Richard Crawford. “We are excited to have found the right location and the right partner who shares our vision. The property will be a game-changer for Sydney and an absolute market leader when it comes to luxury hotels in the city.”
