Frames of houses here in America usually don't even use Nägeln, rather the boards are connected by using perforated metal strips. Quick, easy and not very sturdy, alas.

At 7:05 we have the Nazaré Tedesco's math meme. She's a villain character from a famous brazilian soup opera.

It's great to see her face around the world.

American homes tend to be well insulated but poorly constructed (at least where I live). The houses tend to be made of wood even if they have a brick exterior. You're correct that our roofs are nailed or just stapled on. It's a bad plan. My neighbor lost part of his roof last week and that was just with a strong thunderstorm. I've always found European buildings to be far better constructed.

I live in California our state has better building codes than the other states of the U S A. Californians pay more taxes than other states but we have better services.. Texas has few zoning laws and housing codes. The individual state codes and laws make it difficult to compare the USA to Germany or internationally.

As an inhabitant of the North East, I can say we have a lot houses (usually older) that feature a stone foundation, and extensive insulation. Winters in Upstate NY can be rather harsh.

I miss German houses. I had to learn about them in the fact that you needed a Hammer drill just to hang a picture. lol And not having AC wasn't an issue until one summer we had 40 degree temps for most of the summer. And I desperately want America to go the the metric sys. It is so much easier to figure it out.

Hi Dave, love your channel! It’s interesting how close the word for tornado is pronounced to the way we pronounce it in Spanish. You’re correct that roofs aren’t well built even in tornado alley and its more about cost efficiencies. When they put up subdivisions, the houses tend to be similar in construction, usually the lowest and most cost effective way with wood. Most brick houses it’s just a veneer to make it look good and to increase the value of the home. Sadly most homes in tornado alley the roof is supported by the walls, so even a weak tornado could easily flatten the home by just taking the roof. Thankfully most homes now have built in safe rooms rated up to EF-5 (winds at or exceeding 200 miles per hour) or one can be bought to be installed. I think it’s the unique geography is why we have a tornado alley as well. We have the Rockies to the west and the Appalachian mountains to the east, leaving the middle flat so that hot and cold air masses collide with each other to create severe weather. I wonder is there a German word for storm chaser? Keep up the awesome!

Germany doesn't really have a tornado alley because it *is* the tornado alley of Europe :P
