When tampering with the natural order of things, man must not ignore the Warning Sign.

In the rolling Utah countryside, a small town is host to a fortress-like research facility, which the townspeople believe is developing new advancements in agriculture. But deep within is a top-secret project to create a bioweapon that turns anyone exposed to it into a raging, psychotic killer. When the unthinkable happens and the facility is locked down, Sheriff Cal Morse (Sam Waterston, Serial Mom) must choose between keeping the town safe and rescuing his wife Joanie (Kathleen Quinlan, Twilight Zone: The Movie), who is trapped inside. But for Major Connolly (Yaphet Kotto, Alien), there is only one remorseless solution: contain the deadly virus … at all costs.

Written by Hal Barwood and Matthew Robbins (the team behind Dragonslayer) and featuring the cinematography of Dean Cundey (Halloween, John Carpenter’s The Thing), Warning Sign presents a nightmarish scenario of science gone wrong.

No zombies...but when infected they become homicidal maniacs. It is a great movie..pretty realistic.

Such an underrated gem. Day of the dead vibes. I’m curious if 28 Days borrowed from
This?

This was basically Resident Evil, before Resident Evil.

Home to one of the best, maybe *the* best 'emergency lockdown' scenes in media. The overall plot and script are pretty weak and it's full of cliches and dumb plot holes, but it's absolutely worth watching if you like virus outbreak-type movies.

I'm trying to track down a movie I saw as a kid in the 90s on tv. This is the closest thing to it but it's not it. Same premise. Viral outbreak makes ppl raging zombies. All I remember was ppl in hazmats being hunted down in the city by a zombie with sharp weapons.

This is a great trailer. I don't even care if it's a real movie or not.

After watching Outbreak, Contagion, REC, Quarantine and entire Resident Evil collection, as well as many other titles regarding microorganism spread, sci fi is my favourite movie genre, I came across the Warning Sign - a four decade old film rated 6/10 on Imdb. Storyline somewhat corresponds to events unfolding in the Raccoon city. There is a vial broken, containing pathogen, causing mutations in underground research facility. Acting is good, camera fine. Character reaction, both of employees inside and crowd gathered outside, to laboratory sealing is absurd: instead of obeying precaution measures they desperately try to open the lock risking much wider catastrophy. I mean, people should be aware of consequences and protocols in cases of emergency. Their collective reaction is tragicomical. Sit down and wait. Prepare for worst scenario which is, of course, powerful air strike. No responsible government will jeopardize lives of all to save hundred already trapped and doomed. On the other hand, every responsible government will avoid bringing deadly microorganisms from outerspace and extreme Earth's environment on the planet surface or near. It could be moved on a space station far enough to keep hazard of infection at zero.

Another observation, they somehow managed to only have one Black person in the entire production. Not one soldier, scientist, civilian... nobody but Yaphet Kotto.

So basically this situation we're dealing with has been an issue for quite some time. A 1985 movie on chemical warfare, fear mongering, quarantines, and forced vaccinations.
