I do resistance training and walk daily a couple miles. One cup of coffee in morning. No alcohol. Intermittent fast 16/8. Tried low carb but it makes me feel like crap. Have enlarged prostate for many years. I’m 61 now. Had prostatis a few times, but have been able to resolve with antibiotics so far. Thank you for the education on this video. Very informative!

Hi Dr. Great video. I am 65, had BPH, tried Flomax and diet and finasteride, all to no EFFECT. After 2 years of trying and up to 6 times per night getting up, my Dr and I decided on Urolift and viola. I had immediate benefit, my first urination after surgery was my best void in many years. It has been over 2 years since and I am still very pleased, rarely have to get up during the night and when I do, only once. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Thank you Dr. Malik! You explain better than a classroom lecture.

Very informative and comprehensive discussion on BPH. My urologists simply don't have the time (or desire?) to fully explain the options available. Your presentation is absolutely necessary to make an effective decision. It took me several years to arrive at my decision going forward. It would have been a lot easier to see this video long ago. In any event, I'm going for the hoLEP procedure next week. I believe it would be the gold standard considering my condition and the size of the prostate lobes growing into the bladder. I'm fortunate to live in an area to find a doctor qualified to to perform hoLEP. (Only a single doctor within the UCLA system is qualified.) Afterwards, I'll be totally off medications which are mostly ineffective.Thank you for this video. More doctors should take advantage of social channels!

Great Dr. Thanks for the elaborate information. I am 62. My prostate size was 46 gm. I reduced it to 26 gm in two months by using:
1. Saw Palmetto 500gm capsule daily.
2. Corn silk tea. One cup daily.
3. Kiegel. Exercises
Stay blessed

Dr. Malik I just wanted to say I really appreciate the apparently-comprehensive coverage of this topic! I expect I'll be undergoing some type of surgery at some point in the future, and my urologist has already suggested Urolift, which she offers. You introduced a few treatments I hadn't even heard of before, and I like to know all my options. Thank you!

Enlarged prostate for 25 years. Tried everything. Best remedy by far has been to keep hydrated. I drink plenty of water all day, including in the evening. Typically get up to void once a night.

You forgot Pumpkin Seed Oil. Did my research, then used 1000 mg with a meal once per day and it did the trick for me in correcting the stop-start urine flow thing. Took about 3-4 months to fully kick in, and has worked beautifully.

I solved my prostate problem a few years ago by having a simple robotic prostatectomy. I had 86% of my prostate removed. I am now shooting blanks but still shooting. It got to the point that several times I could not urinate at all and had to go to the emergency room to have a catheter inserted. My advice, take real action instead of "living with" the problem which I did for too many years.

Thanks for the info. Knowing m enlarged prostate is not from BPH but another issue and different procedures available to help reduce the size helps. Also knowing what's happening with ejaculation going back into the bladder very helpful.

You are wonderful! I have learned more in eleven minutes than I have learned in 20 years. Why are most urologists not as clear as you? Mine have been male, are men afraid to talk to other males about their penis and sexual side effects from having a damaged prostate? Who knows, but I am going to go through all of your videos so that I can become better informed and know what to ask my MD about my prostate issues.

Questions you will want to ask your doctor/surgeon before you have prostate surgery
1. How long will it be before my symptoms get better? ( Can be up to 3 months )
2. How long am I going to need a catheter?
3. Am I going to need to spend the night in the hospital?
4. What is my chance of sexual side effects? (i.e retrograde ejaculation or erectile dysfunction )
5. What is the probability that I might need surgery again?

Great video!

Finasteride was fairly effective for me, but it also turned me into a eunuch. The Urolift did not help me, but aside from needing a catheter for three days it wasn't a terrible experience. It did not hurt sexual function. One procedure urologists don't mention is prostatic arterial embolization where tiny beads are inserted through a catheter in the arm or leg to block the blood flow to the prostate, causing it to shrink about 30 to 40 percent. It is done by interventional radiologists. It is currently considered an experimental procedure for prostate reduction but it seems to have promising results with minimal discomfort and no effect on sexual performance. It normally does not require a urinary catheter and is done as an outpatient. Improvement in urine flow generally takes a couple of months to appear.

Flaxseeds sprinkled on your food, magnesium tables can help with Frequent Urination (FU). Urolift seems to be the most popular and successful surgery right now .

My go-to "treatment" for a long time was Bell E-Z Flow Tea. Worked every time. I just ordered two more boxes, to deal with recently recurring symptoms. But this always cleared up what ailed me.
