Tom I don’t get why people say Edu’s been a failure. Watching Arsenal in the 2010s was so frustrating. We’ve lost 3 leagues games this calendar year. He’s helped build this squad to where it is now. Yeah we want trophies but it hurts my head hearing those comments when I remember watching Arsenal regularly get humiliated in the league/Europe and not be competitive. Hope we transition smoothly and like you said not one person is bigger than the club.

Bring in Txiki Begiristain in the summer if KSE have any real ambition. A definite upgrade on Edu

I love how people throw a name out there to replace Edu followed by “no idea what they are like though” the name that should be brought up though is Santi Cazorla 😂

On a more serious note, there is a lot to unpick about this. The statement is a formality. You see that kind of statement all the time. The fact none of us know what’s going on behind the scenes or Edus motivation will cause people to speculate. It would be interesting to know if Mikel had any idea this was coming when he signed his new contract. If Edu is motivated by his salary being tripled then I don’t blame him. If someone tripled my salary I’d be off like a shot.

The previous transfer window was a very sustainable one. Is this a direction the board are looking to go in for future windows too? When Mikel said there would be no big money buys is that something Edu was trying to battle against but ultimately having his hands tied by the board? Or it could simply be that he’s not advancing upwards at Arsenal so the Maranakis role over multiple clubs is the advancement he wants?

As for a rating I would give him 7/10 and have loved an invincible in such a role at our club.

One challenge with Edu leaving is that a couple years back, he gutted and concentrated the scouting staff. There isn’t as broad a base of institutional knowledge and the same depth of relationships with agents. This could really hurt us in the next couple transfer windows and set us far back in our progress—potentially for a season or two… unless, of course, his replacement can’t make up for this by having some of the richest and deepest relationships of anyone out there. It’s a really tall order.

Sad and stunned. Did not see this coming. A bit disappointed to be completely honest. I understand tripling your salary is something very few people would turn down. But it feels abrupt and that he is leaving something big in the making. Got me a little worried, could Arteta leave for Forest, city, PSG, rangers in a not too distant feature. But good luck to Edu and we move. COYG!! 🔴⚪️

Sad to see edu go. I like this iteration of our management and are behind the scenes staff but I got to say if somebody offers me triple what I'm making right now and the promotion as far as the role is concerned I'm taking it so I can't blame him for taking it Good luck edu

Initially with Edu leaving during the season I wondered has something gone on behind the scenes? I thought Edu would, like Arteta, aim to see the process through to lifting those trophies. I feel a little bit sad 😢 but people move on and are not irreplaceable.

It would be in the best interests of the club to go down the multi club route. We now need to bring in an experienced person who has a resume of excellence and has the capacity to identify and bring in the best available talent.

I guess its an exciting opportunity, especially considering they are willing to pay 3x.

You got to take the opportunity…there is no such thing as loyalty when it comes to jobs.

In hindsight, wish he would have left earlier. Think Arsenal would have had a shot at getting Hugo Viana. Did an incredible job at Sporting; can't imagine what he'll do at City.

Do u think they’ll be looking at someone like Michael Zorc?

Wouldn't mind an Overmars and maybe Bergkamp in the youth system

If Edu is still under contract, there should be a financial cost to poaching an exec during a season.

Are you concerned Edu's had his head turned by a role, that from the outside, would seem less out of the spotlight & with a more volatile individual? We're on the cusp of trying to achieve something major and to have a key part jump ship doesnt have the best optics.

I question the timing of this all and going by reports so did the board. Anyway onwards we move.
