What it could have been. I listened to several of her songs from a few years ago. Nothing astonishing. Then I heard this song. From the first line, the music, the singing and the lyric made me sit down and open myself to the feeling. Then - well, a wonderful powerful song went away. "Freedom". I've heard it all and Richie Havens mined that particular lode once and for all. Less repetitious gymnastics and more meat (more lyric like the early part) later makes this an absolutely stunning, evocative song that I could replay a dozen times.
