Nothing annoys me more than friends who haven't talked to me in years suddenly begging me to by their $70 lipstick.

After explaining to a woman (that contacted me at a park while I was with my kids) that my husband and I chose our jobs because we value helping our community (dentist and teacher) she paused for about a minute and said, “okay that’s great but have you guys ever thought about being financially free?” 😂😅 I had no idea how to respond haha

A stranger came up to me while my kids and I were cheering on my husband in a triathlon, she asked me if I was sick of being overweight(I had just given birth) and then gave me a business card...I was disgusted and creeped out. I told her I like being fat and she left🤣

I was a naive 22-23 year old minding my own business at the gym and saw a girl I attended school with since 5th grade. Nice girl. Sweet. Innocent. She was excited to see me and was like “some friends of mine just started a new business and I now work with them! Really good money. You’d be amazing! I gotta run but here’s my number let’s talk about it over coffee!” Me, thinking this is adulthood, my peers are doing better things in life than me, a student working at a bank. I was excited about it! We met for coffee and she explained the pyramid scheme with emphasis on saving money or something. So I said “oh is this Amway???” She said “I can’t tell you.” Any question I’d asked she responded the same way. “You need to come to the meeting and learn about it yourself.” No, lady. I’m not going to a sketchy warehouse meeting without even knowing what company this is or knowing any details. Told her I was going out of town and never saw her again!

My cousin accidentally sent a group txt to the wrong group claiming essential oil’s were responsible for eradicating her grandmother’s precancerous cells and she was putting together a box of oils and said to get her “ testimony “ out there ( I don’t remember the exact wording ) … the group she sent it to was us, her family. My mom had sent us all a txt that my grandma’s tests came back and the cells were benign. There was no precancer to begin with.

I had a friend tell me she had an opportunity for me to increase my revenue stream. I called her because I was concerned about what she had gotten into. I asked her how the structure of the business worked and her first response was it’s not an MLM and then preceded to tell me all they ways they told her it was not an MLM……….. Girl if they have to give you a long explanation as to how it’s not a MLM it’s a MLM.

I got asked at church if I'd like to meet a guy and his business partners to be part of their consulting team. After a couple of calls we set up the meet. They invited me and my wife to what we thought was a private meeting with them. We arrived to find a lecture hall with 200 people, no food at dinner time, and a group presentation for a MLM.

Worst date as a married couple ever.

This is SO spot on! 😂 Here’s how you can tell someone’s about to start an MLM, they post a pic and introduce themselves (I’ve known you since high school) and asking “fun” questions so they can get people seeing their content. I can spot it a mile away now.

I totally got swept up into an MLM. I wanted the products at a discount so I joined because someone told me I didn't have to do it as a business. Cue tons of pressure to do it as a business. I did it for a long while (a year) and I still feel a little foolish. To be fair though, I was a stay at home mom and was honestly trying to provide extra income. It didn't work because I'm too soft hearted to use personal relationships to pressure people to buy stuff they can't afford. That's basically what my upline told me. 😳

My craziest story was randomly meeting a woman in Target while I was shopping for my nephews. She had just moved to town and was asking questions. She was super sweet and chatty. I thought it was a little odd, but figured she was just an extreme extrovert looking for friends and a church. I told her about my church of course, she said she was interested in visiting and also interested in the camps we host. Fast forward a couple weeks, she wants to meet up for coffee. I wasn't able to make it but we chatted on the phone....She starts telling me how I've been on her mind since we met in Target and the compliments started building and then the whole MLM starts and everything made sense! 😂

I have never once been tempted to join a MLM, even being a stay at home mom with a modest household income. The whole thing gives off such a predatory scam vibe and basically destroys relationships.

I was caring for one of my patients in the hospital and his daughter told me she was just so impressed with the care I gave. She then later told me that because I was such a good person and had good skin (??) she really wanted me on her Mary Kay team. She kept talking about the benefits of it and how as a nurse you would have extra time to commit to MK! Haha no thanks lady. Pretty shameless to try to recruit someone as they’re actively working 😂

I was in a mom's group a decade ago and they decided to host an "entrepreneur" night where all of us who had our own businesses would set up tables and showcase what we do, to either sell items on the spot or generate some business/word of mouth. There were maybe a dozen people who signed on to participate. I was shocked when I showed up and aside from one other woman, everyone else was there as a representative of an MLM. There were books, skin care, toys, candles, erotica, smelly stuff, cooking gear, etc. I had no idea there were so many MLMs around, nor that people running MLMs considered themselves "entrepreneurs."

I had a true friend ask me to join MK and without me knowing about it had me on a three-way call with the person the rung above her. They said I only had to spend $150.00 to get into it and I didn’t have the extra cash then. I was as polite as I could be and said, “I love you as a friend, I just don’t love MK and don’t want to sell it.” She literally didn’t talk to me again. 😆

I had a “friend” who was pitching essential oils to me regularly for like a year. I finally caved and signed up to get the discount. I was very up front that I didn’t want to sell anything or do a business. She told me that was totally fine, but then like once a month would ask if I wanted to jump on a webinar to hear about starting my own business. The last straw was her reaching out to me on the day I gave birth to my son and asking if I could make a webinar at 6pm to hear about the business. The actual day I birthed a human into the world. No congratulations or how are you doing? Just pushing me to start a business I didn’t even want in the first place. So needless to say I never bought anything.

Thank god someone is pointing out the ridiculous MLM scams. I’m so tired of being sold something from my friends. And I think it is criminal that they always seem to market these things to those who likely don’t have much already and then they are expected to spend money in order to make money. 🤨

My favorite MLM story- Went with a group of friends to an Olive Garden. On our way out the girls went into the bathroom so we’re sitting in the entry way waiting for them when the host starts talking to us. He asked if we were students at the nearby college, which we were. Then we asked him if he’s also a student because he appears college aged. He says he doesn’t need school because a couple (who were like 28) are mentoring him in some business which was going to allow Mr. Olive Garden host to retire by 30 and be financially independent. He’s trying to sell us on it and we politely nod along until the girls finally get out of the bathroom and we leave. I guarantee you he’s not retiring at 30, he’s still gonna be working at Olive Garden by then.

Oh my god, I worked as a secretary and assistant for one … they paid me well, but I had to quit for my conscience. I felt SO bad for basically manipulating good, honest people who truly wanted to be gainfully employed and got reeled in. I won’t say the company, but they worked within the healthcare industry!!! Each person got $1k to get someone to sign on, and then it was just trying to hustle other honest people into purchasing them through fear. It was so sad. They’d win trips and all of these lovely things for scamming. It was so dystopian and strange ugh. I couldn’t do it 😭. edit: please stop being mad in the comments i replied what it was okay i was just an assistant for someone who worked there to help someone help hire people im not a bad person i was v v v young

This has happened to me more times than I can count! 😂 I laughed through the whole thing. 100% accurate!
It took SEVERAL years, but after many times of refusing to even meet up with these women/family members, they got to the point where they all stopped asking me to join! 🙌🏻 #FREEDOM
