If you divide it up it wouldn't be the Olympics anymore but just a World Cup for that game. It's the tournament that makes it the Olympics.

Amsterdam still has its Olympic Stadium that was built for the 1928 games.

The only people really making money are the IOC itself. Apart from the building work they demand, they also take the advertising and TV money and want all kinds of tax excemptions. And everybody pays for the venues (taxes) but only a small part of businesses profit (like hotels). It's a big redistribution of money costing the local people. Same with big football/soccer events.

As a guy that lives in Brisbane (2032 Olympics), we're going to be the laughing stock of the world. Our politicians can't agree on anything and not even a shovel has turned an ounce of soil yet to start any significant projects, plenty of proposals but it's all down to money that we don't have. Although it's still 8 years out, we're all in the midst of a housing and cost of living crisis, so majority of people's view's is 'stuff the Olympics', but yes they plan to spend more money afterwards to convert the Olympic Village into 1, 2 or 3 bedroom apartments rather than 'dorm' rooms which is what they'll be for the Olympics. When it does happen, I can assure you that the opening ceremony won't have some ridiculous ideological, transgender crack at Christianity and the last supper though.

America's no stranger to hosting the Olympics. Every time America hosts the Olympics. They're considered to be the most successful and the most profitable.
