CUGH 2022 Virtual Global Health Conference March 28-April 1, 2022
Satellite Sessions March 21-25, 2022

Since colonial times, colonial structures have been part of colonial and tropical medicine and now also of global health work. Only quite recently has the topic of "decolonizing global health" become one of the intensive concerns to the field. How does one deconstruct a formidable social structure such as colonialism which is now embedded in many facets of societal norms and thinking? How can global health practitioners including clinicians, researchers, and frontline health workers contribute to the debate about decolonization and the implantation of decolonized global partnerships? While various approaches have been explored, one approach that has received insufficient attention is the role of the arts and humanities in understanding the roots of the coloniality and deconstructing decolonization. How do the arts, history, culture, philosophy, rhetoric, sociology, religion contribute to our understanding of the decolonization debate? The Satellite session will explore this question through a series of panel talks followed by audience participation and participant breakout sessions. The final section of the meeting will entail a large group discussion to consider consensus statements, future approaches and outcomes for the meeting.
