Our Story:
We are five years into a seven year effort of transforming 20 acres of "Piney
Grove" in Northwest Florida into our dream homestead/mini farm to be filled
with animals and joy. We plan to have a variety of miniature critters on our
pastures, raise free-range chickens, grow fish in our pond, garden
organically, plant fruit and nut trees, and harvest wild game. Our goal is
to escape the stresses of corporate life and embrace all that country living
has to offer as we enter the next chapter of our lives. Follow along on our

As a kid of the 70's this reminds me of my mother handing me a paper poke sack full of sevendust to sling through our garden... The real stuff that's carcinogenic....by hand lol

I bought that stuff but didn't use clay and it really does work, it slowed my ponds leak drastically.
it will jam up your spreader though once it gets wet

I seen this trick an old timer showed me years ago, if you know where the leak is you can use a few 4x8 pieces of sheet rock and put them on the leak in the bottom of the pond, they will help seal the leak in the bottom of the pond. I didn't believe it would work either but it did. You just got to get it on the right spot. Hope this helps someone.

Bentonite is what we used when we drilled on mud in the oilfield. There’s nothing toxic about it, it’s just powdered clay. Makes the hole slippery and holds the walls so your tools don’t get stuck. I could see it being used for this.

I used cat litter 😂 to seal my pond, scent free and extra clumping. It was a bunch of little holes in dam the area was about 6' wide and 2'-3'. 8 40lb bags and cut it with dirt. Worked like a charm.

For those of you, who don’t know cat litter is made out of bentonite.

It’s a tricky deal. We put a literal ton of bentonite into our pond to seal up some leaks after removing trees from the top and sides of the dam. It worked after a while, but earthquakes appear to have jostled something loose.

Bentonite works wonders on a leaking pond levy. I use a mixing tank tho I put 10-15 bags in a 750 gallon tank and pump it out across the levy. I’ve found that’s the easiest way to do it

So its like flock used in coal preparation plants and silt ponds, it makes all the particulate in the water sink to the bottom and seals up any places water is escaping into the ground

I found a bag of Bentonite by the side of the road labeled mortar, so I picked up, took it home. Had some cracks in pavement I wanted to fill. Mixed it up and it was literally just mud. Confused the hell out of me. Used it to seal some holes leading underneath my patio…
