British Columbia Premier John Horgan unveiled the province's climate change plan requiring all new buildings to be net-zero energy by 2030 and all new cars sold to be zero-emission by 2040. The goal is to cut B.C.'s greenhouse gas emissions by 60 per cent by 2040 and 80 per cent by 2050.

Regardless on wether you agree or not with climate change, BC is taking the right step on diversification and an economy less reliable in only one source of energy.

Prince Edward Island has windmills all over the place, and guess what. They don’t benefit Islanders whatsoever. The power is sold to the United States cheaper than what Islanders are paying for power. Doing things like that makes people not care about emissions.

Social engineering at it’s worst. Premier deserves to be dragged through the streets of both BC and Alberta.

I'm an industrial electrician and have been waiting for a job at LNG Canada for a while now. The union reps tell me it's delayed for political reasons. Don't know who is actually responsible but I'm pretty annoyed with all the politics and delays!

Meanwhile, elsewhere in BC: coal mining and fracking LNG.

It's like it doesn't count if we export it to be burned elsewhere. Most babies learn object permanence at 4-7 months old. How long does it take politicians?

What we need to do is have all of the countries that have no pollution control, no recycling and no waste protection to adhere to current world standards. If the top 5 counties are net zero and everyone else does nothing it will accomplish little.

This is so self absorbed. You’re literally saying we’re exporting carbon to the rest of the world.

While it's a step in the right direction it's nowhere near ambitious enough (I would call it downright anemic in fact) How's about you kibosh the whole LNG catastrophe and double the carbon tax then we'd actually be getting somewhere.

I can't wait to buy 1L of Electricity at Canadian Tire.

So a blanket shakedown of Canadian tax payers and industry, that doesn't take into account carbon emissions, is surprised to find a low carbon emitting province receptive to their plan. Make no mistake, this is a knife to the prairies. That's all it will achieve. A lot of useless talk about goals and standards but unless you can incentives private entrepreneurs to tackle this problem all you end up doing is kicking industry and economy. Why the actual %$^& is this plan not province dependent? Do we really have to hear what each premier is going to say on this?

That's assuming the current NDP stays in power - not going to happen !
