Fentanyl crisis in California reaches catastrophic proportions, seizures up nearly 600%

Fentanyl seized at the border was sufficient to kill twice the population of North America.

A report released on Dec. 23 by the office of California’s Governor Gavin Newsom revealed that the amount of fentanyl pouring over the California border has reached catastrophic proportions. There was enough of the drug reaching the state in 2022 to kill every man, woman and child in North America -- twice.

This past year saw a 594% increase in fentanyl seizures compared to 2021. The California National Guard and law enforcement seized 28,765 pounds of Fentanyl. This is frightening when a lethal dose of fentanyl can fit inside the square of a keypad letter on an iphone.

The staggering increase in the amount of the deadly synthetic opioid, is a stark reminder that the crisis at the border is real. Drugs are carried by people entering the United States, often illegally. The latest number of illegal border crossings released by the Department of Homeland Security reveal that there were 2,378,944 people coming across the southwest border this year, more than triple the amount from 2020.

Since President Biden took office, the number of illegal crossings have steadily increased. In January 2022 there were approximately 155,00 illegal crossings, but by March that number exceeded 200,000 per month and remained at that average for the rest of the year, with single adults being the largest percentage, more than double that of family units.

The Sheriff’s Department in LA County used to have a team that performed highway interdiction along the 5 freeway which is a known drug courier route from Mexico up through the Western border states. A lawsuit was filed alleging the deputy’s disproportionately stopped Latino drivers relative to other races. Imagine that even though most of the drug smugglers are Latino. The courts ruled in favor of the plaintiff’s resulting in the interdiction team being dissolved and drugs running freely along the Highway to all points north into the US.

The old saying, “Cut off your nose to spite your face” comes to mind and is live and well in California and the Federal Government.

It is not just the southern Mexico border in which just over 50% of the fentanyl coming in but the other 50% has been confirmed through China and Iraq shipping fentanyl, ISO which is 120% pure fentanyl and carfentanyl in which is 150 to double the strength of fentanyl of today that narcan has proven to be ineffective to being shipped to both American and Canadian dealers alike who are mixing it with anything. Is America going to close the border for Mexico and Canada? Is America going to stop all shipments coming from China and Iraq also? I would like someone to prove how both the Mexico and Canada border as a whole and how all shipments from China and Iraq being totally stopped. All this is impossible as it is no matter who operates the Whitehouse.

I was recently told by a friend who is an RN that fentonyl is so bad that even the biggest allowed dose of Methadone won't touch it! Addicts go into a clinic to start treatment and then drop out when the medication they are given doesn't even come close to working!

We now have a drug that is so powerful that our strongest treatment medications won't work. How do we fix those addicted to this chemical? Just asking them or forcing them to sweat it out is cruel, and I really don't think it is a feasible choice for the addicted. We are in an epidemic that humanity has never faced before! An untreatable disease that kills is pretty scary. Prevention is the only path. And preventing it from getting across the border is key!

I am in recovery myself. And I can't even imagine the hell those people are in. I have been so blessed to have fixed my life many years ago! I am lucky this didn't exist when I was making bad choices. And I am thankful for that every day. Especially after seeing videos like this! Thank you for talking about this important story!
