Only chance we'll win is not by technical ability and having a better game, it's the resilience of the ref. The difference with 2004 and 2006 teams was that England played the wrong formation. If we would have had Carrick sitting, with Scholes and Gerrard or Scholes and Lampard infront, we would have controlled midfields much better. Unfortunately Owen would have to have held the bench. The complete myth that we were "the better team" against France when we got knocked out is something I always find funny when I hear clueless people peddling it. Only people with zero ball knowledge think we were the "better team". Just because you have more possession and you have more chances, it doesn't necessarily mean you were the better team. France willingly let us have possession that game because they knew we weren't going to do anything to it, especially when they sat back deep in the second half. It's called "a game plan", and France tactically fulfilled theirs perfectly when they knocked us out. They were by far the best team in that tournament and we weren't the only team they played like that against. They did the exact same thing against Morocco the following game against Morocco in the second half and pulled it off perfectly.

The definition of zero ball knowledge is thinking you were the better team just because you had more possession and shots on paper.

It's stupid to make out like no other manager could do as well. Obviously a lot depends on if he can win tomorrow but if he doesn't then there's nothing to say another manager couldn't win something with 4 goes at it with a current crop of excellent talent. Look at Spain, they had a managerial change after winning a Euros in 2008 for the first time since the 60's, then go on to win the next 2 tournaments.
