2022 Royal Enfield Himalayan Review and Updates

Royal Enfield's 2022 (US/North America markets) Himalayan adventure dual-sport bike leads the charge in offering fun, wallet friendly value with even more features this year. It's great when a company listens to their customers. In the past several years Royal Enfield's 411cc, 24hp Himalayan has seen regular updates and changes from the factory largely based on rider feedback. From the addition of switchable ABS to improved shifting, the 2022 Himalayan upgrades some past features and gives us a newly integrated spin on navigation.

Having only had a short time with the Tripper nav system, it was fairly easy use once it made a good connection to my Samsung Android phone.  While not necessarily meant for off-road navigation, it did well in navigating around the Temecula, CA test ride area. When not in use, it only displays the current time on it's large easy to read screen. We like that the screen is very visible in direct sunlight, even with sunglasses on, and is much more legible than most cell phones. In addition to turn arrows, it also displays distance to turn and total remaining distance.

Thanks to Royal Enfield for the great times and video clips!

I just picked one up in pine green. I picked it over the rock red, personally I hated the look of the rock red and it was the only two colors available. Even if they had the other colors I still would choose the pine green, I absolutely love this bike! Coming from owning over a dozen motorcycles in my lifetime (36yrs) from liter bikes to dirt bikes and currently I own a BMW GS, the Himalayan is one of my all time most enjoyable motorcycles I have ever ridden hands down definitely a keeper. They have truly made an enthusiasts bike here with a very refined motor and exceptional off road handling. Love it! For the price it’s serious value.

I’m glad RE is listening to their customers and making improvements along the way. It’s not for me but I know many will find it perfect for their needs.

Would be nice if they would come out with a model that has a 650cc engine on it. I do a lot of highway riding on the way to work. Would love to have a Himalayan but I don't think it has enough power to get you out on the highway.

What do you think is a fair price for a used one of these in 2024 with 5k miles?

I went to a dealership the other day looking for a Husq Svartpilen 701. None. Not sure that they even make the 701 in Svart. Sat on a 401 Vit and decided immediately that it was a sharp bike but not a fit for my frame. Then I bumped into the RE Himalayan and liked it.
My concern is the availability of it to be modified with accessories like panniers, different seats, lights etc. Would you know if such is available?

Hi how is this bike on the highway going long distance or just in general? The horse power seems like you would struggle to keep up on the highway if you needed to a pass a vehicle etc. And going against the wind. What are your thoughts? I think the horse power is around 44 or something like that. Thanks

Hi, anybody knows if it is technically possible upgrading an older model Himalayan (2019) with the new Royal Enfield Navagation System as an after market part.
I think there should be a way to package it somewhere on or adjacent to the dashboard and to supply it with 12V.
Please let me know, if you have used the Royal Enfield’s Tripper On-Board Navigation System as an after market part.

Now if I could only get my 2021 Himalayan to start easily in the morning and to idle correctly. If I’d ridden my bike beforehand, I wouldn’t have bought it. I do not recommend the Himalayan to anyone.
