N gauge train review - 5700 Pannier Tank -

A new loco review for your viewing pleasure! A beautiful Dapol model of GWR 5764 Pannier Tank in GWR Green with Great Wester lettering, a very detailed little n gauge loco, lets see how she runs.

I have such fond memories of my very first Hornby GWR Pannier that my grandad bought for me when i was a kid back in the UK in the mid-70s. I ran it into the ground. And despite adding many, many locos over time, none of them ever came close to making me smile as much seeing it trundle past on my layout.

Happy days.

Thanks For sharing Simon!

What a little stunner. Always had a soft spot for the Pannier. Great review as always!

Nice review of a great model. Love the 57xx of which I have a couple of Bachmann OO versions! Most impressed with how N Gauge models have improved over the years and enjoy watching them on your channel!

Excellent loco and review Simon! The GR pannier tank is the one west coast loco that I really like and have a soft spot for and it looks like Dapol have done an excellent job on it. The fine detail like the grills on the rear windows is excellent and seems like a nice runner as well. Well done on getting a repro of an actual loco from the Severn Valley railway :) - Sim

Wow Dapol's done a really good job there. If you didn't tell us it was N gauge and zoomed in far enough then I'd have said that was 00. Really good system for the DCC chip in the cab too. Great review!

A lenz decode wont fit in mine but if I where to de solder the circuit board that the 6 pin chip goes into do you know if it would then work if i soldered in the lens silver mini with wires?

I always enjoy watching your videos. I've bought the same Pannier from Dapol, but mine hasn't quieted down, even after three hours of running in. Understandably, I'm quite disappointed, for this is not the first Dapol engine that I'm having trouble with. :(

I just bought one and installed a digitrax decoder and when I put it on my track, it hums. No movement. Any clue on what that may be? I have other European engines on my layout with no issues.

Haha! Now I can put my plan into action!
My plan is to make n scale thomas characters. So I looked up the ho scale rws customs to see what models their made with. I then watched the n scale thomas and percy review and had an idea to look for a pannier tank engine in n scale. Now I can finally set up a plan!

Hi Simon I got one about 9 months ago with the BR early crest. Been running well but now needs a service, it no help having cats one of which likes to sleep on the layout, so I have to clean the pickups often to get rid of the cat fur.

I chipped mine with a Gaugemaster chip. Don't use a Bachmann chip as they are a bit to big, this to anyone else thinking of buying a 5700.

Great video.  I see the model came with buffer details.  Do you plan to fit those?

Simon,

Excellent video of a lovely model, thank you.

I can't decide whether the handrails you have to remove to fit the chip are metal or plastic.  Can you please clarify, thanks in advance.
