Maya is the illusion that there is something other than Brahman. The illusion arises due to ignorance and ignorance is a play of Brahman (by and for Brahman). But still, Brahman alone exists...whether there is ignorance and misunderstanding or not.

If you're ignorant, Avidya, as the majority of people are, you won't realize you're ignorant. Only the few intelligent and humble people recognize their ignorance. This is why the ignorant, or majority of ignorant people in the world, rule society and the intelligent and humble people suffer.

The difficulty in "Knowing" Brahman is 'language'. We do not have a language for spiritual discourse. American language is based on 'thingness'...person, place or thing. Brahman is NOT a person, place or thing. -namaskaram
