The Atari 2600 prototype game, Sonar, was in development at the very start of the Atari 2600 (or maybe even before). Utilizing stereo sound to send separate ping-back notifications to two simultaneous players was a creative use of the 2600's dual internal speakers -- which were removed prior to launch as a cost-saving measure! Possibly the work of Brad Stewart (Breakout, Asteroids), this very, very early Atari game is now freely available to download and play.

On the heels of this news, we have just learned that developer, Thomas Jentzsch, cracked open that decades-old code and fixed every lingering problem that might stop you from enjoying this game today!

What a shame they never released it. It sounds like a cool idea for a game.
