Grace Slick's nickname was "The voice that launched a thousand trips."

Grace Slick was the soul of Jefferson Airplane. By the bye, living in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury in the Summer of Love (1967), I had the privilege of hearing Grace Slick and Janis Joplin doing an impromptu duet in Golden Gate Park. Incredible! And neither of them needed an amplifier. I think the song was “Mustang Sally”.
What a day! 🤗

I'm a boomer, it's nice to hear you loving our music. It was great! My childhood was in the 50s and my teen years in the 60s and 70s. So glad your generation is discovering that we had awesome music!

"Miracles" by Jefferson Starship has mind-blowing vocals, too...

Ok. The “in and out” is called “vibrato” because the voice sort of “vibrates”. And singers do control that. I’m not a singer, I’ve just always wanted to be one and have been in the church choir. But that is what that’s called. Word of the day….vibrato.

Grace Slick has such a powerful voice & some serious vibrato. Jefferson Airplane really rocked out at Woodstock even though Grace was drunk off her face. Lmao! The group name changes were due to changes in the band line~up & who owned the name. They went from Jefferson Airplane to Jefferson Starship to Starship. I cracked up when you said you were excited to continue *going down the rabbit hole* of them. Hee hee hee.

You two are by far the best “Reactionaries” of classic music on the Tube. You remind me of two children, walking through an unknown forest, and finding one unforeseen treasure after another. And like any other successful treasure hunters, the happiness you project when you strike gold is contagious. Keep on keeping on.

P.s. I grew up with this music, and got to see live many of the musicians you’re checking out. It was a wonderful time for music. But I’m not lamenting the fact that the past is past. After all, old songs that were well done, never lose their glitter. And I love that wall in the background.😎

With a baby boy on the way, you gotta react to Harry Chapin
"Cat's in the cradle"

As a child of the 60s… Jefferson airplane It’s a group I can remember so vividly, driving in a car on the way to the beach and everybody in the car singing along. Those easy breezy days of summer. Kind of like her name Grace slick. A definite name you don’t forget

In the late 60's there were many San Francisco groups about to break huge. Two of the more popular were The Great Society and Jefferson Airplane. Signe Anderson and Marty Balin were the leads for Airplane. Signe was pregnant and left the group to raise her family after their first album. The Great Society was led by brothers Jerry and Dewey Slick and Jerry's wife Grace. Jerry and Grace were breaking up and the band was falling apart. Dewey wrote Somebody to Love and Grace wrote White Rabbit which had a much more middle eastern sound. Paul Kantner asked Grace to join Airplane and she brought those two songs with her, and Airplane became huge.

Grace Slick has amazing vibrato. You are right that there are few singers with that style. Her overall voice was never big, she doesn't have a huge range like some BIG singers, but she has style for miles.

Like that "Hippie Vibe"? Here's another: "Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In" - The 5th Dimension

According to Wikipedia, the song is listed at number 66 on Billboard's "Greatest Songs of All Time".
