I really believe Matty when he said that nothing ever happened between them in 2014, they had exchanged phone numbers, texted occasionally but nothing happened... he also strongly denied it in 2016 and maybe even after I think, he was always honest about this. He could be vague and imply that maybe yes or maybe no, but he never did. I believe for various factors: he had just started with the band to be recognized for their music and they were always around on tour, Taylor was a huge star, always surrounded by many people, Matty also said that she was a kind Barak Obama, I believe all this Matty wasn't ready, he wasn't ready for a superstar like her and he was scared of being recognized only as "Taylor Swift's boyfriend", he himself said that he got so paranoid about these things.
