Theresa May has named 7 June as the day she will step aside as Conservative leader, drawing her turbulent three-year premiership to a close.

May says it has been 'the honour of my life' to be the 'second female prime minister, but certainly not the last'. Her voice cracks as she says it has been an honour to have the opportunity to serve the country she loves

To be honest, May wasn't any less competent than any other PM, but Brexit demands unnatural abilities to be delivered and i doubt there is a single politician in the UK who is capable enough to do so

This is so sad. I feel so sorry for her. She literally got beaten down over and over again, trying to get us out of the EU like we voted, and then she gets blamed when it doesn't happen, when even the MPs themselves couldn't vote on an alternative action. I am not interested in politics, nor do I believe in borders, or wars, or even countries, but I think that this woman being forced out of a job she loved before her time was up is a disgrace. Whoever takes over from her IS NOT going to do a better job. The EU IS NOT receptive to us leaving, and would have beaten down ANYONE in her place. This is so sad.

Wow! A great speech with emotions all over it. I could feel her desire to give her people the best and her frustration as well. That feeling when you have given your all but can't move ahead because of a stumbling block that has proven too stubborn and hard to pierce through and you just have to let go.

Massive contrast with Liz Truss who smiled and grinned throughout her shallow defense of her short tenure. May was serious about the job AND had a mandate. The adults left the room after May was ousted.

I feel May was in a near-impossible situation. History should treat her fairly.

She has far more integrity than her successor and in my view is a stateswoman.

I love her. She didn’t create wars with other countries but mainly focused on working for the country she loves.

Whilst never liking her I will admit I feel sorry for her now as she was given a truly thankless task and tried so very hard. It is also apparent that she has a heart unlike Thatcher. At least she can leave in dignity even if she was pushed out the door by the Rebels and her own party.
