My finance professor who has managed hundreds of millions for clients told us one thing to remember when considering shorting over buying. When you buy, the most money you can lose is the current value of that stock. When you short, the amount of money you can lose is theoretically infinite.

stock shorting is actually much more evil than that knowing it usually involves insider trading and purposeful tanking
