My dad repaired many on this way. He had a mold for both polarities and used graphite from a small battery core to melt lead. That's why you need to tighten the battery poles in your car or truck. Weak joints could melt battery poles.

Гайка на 32 прекрасно справляется: вкручиваешь саморез в пенёк, сверху гайку, наплавляешь свинец - и вуаля)

Делал так. В красной армии в 82г. А /м Краз-255Б, лаптёжник. Эл. оборудование-24В. Два здоровых аккума на 12В, соединенных последовательно. При плохо затянутых клеммах, при запуске, выводы сгорают брызгами. Ремонт подобный, единственно в вывод закручивался шуруп..

Why go thru all this trouble drill a hole down the center of the pole! Change the end on the cable wire, and put a self tapping ¼ X ½ Lock bolt, thru the hole in the fresh drilled post. Cutting and hammering and melting around the top of a battery could? possibly ruin the battery or Xplode and blow your hand and arm off😮

Ah yes, the technological wonder of its time, only to be replaced by the "Clapper". Little known fact, the same old lady in the commercial had used the candle device and was part of it's marketing strategy when she was young.
