From what I saw in this preview, the runes in the dagger were used twice. Once to freeze enemies, and once to ''Diminish'' them. Overall I'm really excited about the combat, it looks so fluid and engaging. Oh and the buildcrafting will be so fun from all the interactions between gear, runes and skilltree. I hope we get another one of these for mage and rogue sometime before release

I'm glad you gave a little shade to the "3 skills" piece people were throwing around. The game is clearly not a CRPG, and yet people are trying to apply CRPG bars to it. Orgins had a shield throw skill in the bar. Now it is its own button for all shield builds. Looks like some passives are done through the lyrium idol, and these have actives too. Three runes, thats 4 active abilities right there. Weapons have two types of attacks, each with different levels of severity depending on use. And there is an ultimate skill. All this on top of 3 active skills. Sounds to me like there is more than 3 skills.

Been looking forward to this kind of combat since inquisition. Most folks I know don't like it & prefer the tactical mode, but fast paced, fluid, reacting in real time is for me.

I recall reading -- somewhere, though I can't recall from where -- that there is a statue of Andraste carved into the white stone of the mountains around Weisshaupt, and I wonder if that could be the face we see in the combat reveal video. In all the previous DA games I have normally only played through as a Mage or Rogue as I never enjoyed playing as a Warrior, the combat shown has me seriously considering playing as a Warrior again.

As someone who has disliked the combat in previous Dragon Age games I'm over the moon with the new combat system. I agree with the criticism around only having 3 normal abilities and 1 ultimate being equipped at one time however. I disliked the profile system in Andromeda for the same reason. Overall though this is the combat I've wanted in DA since Origins. I hope this truly is the Mass Effect 2 of Dragon Age, because ME2 is Bioware's best game ever imo. The perfect mix of brilliant storytelling & fun action combat with strategic elements.

Everything I'm seeing about The Veilguard is just making me more and more excited to play it! I like how the DA devs try something new every time.

In the short story "The Horror of Hormak" in Tevinter Nights you can see that Ghilan'nain has an "automated factory" of sorts underground breeding various monstrous creatures including various variations of darkspawn.

As for the ability to control the taint, I still think it a trait shared by all the Evanuris trapped by Solas. At the very least Andruil should be able to do so as she was the one who first started using the blight. I also have a theory that Ghil's archdemon might actually be her lover Andruil herself though not sure.
