Austrian army was glued up from various other nationalities that Austria ruled over, pretty much the only speaking German were the officers. the rest were Serbian, Hungarian, Polish etc. most of them didn't speak German and at some point accident happened and miscommunication did the rest. Not entirely sure how true this story is but I heard it off a history book a long time ago so idk. But basically there's this battle going on during the Revolutionary War, and the British are planning an ambush on the American militia while they're busy fighting off the main garrison, (keep in mind they're defending an area really close to a town) and so they launch the ambush but it really back fires, and a few of the soldiers die but the remaining 3 or so just start running away, and they drop their muskets to run faster, except in the confusion they accidentally run into the town. For whatever reason there's just this random old lady watering plants or something in her garden and suddenly these 3 Red Coats, with no weapons and out of breathe just dash out of the woods and into her garden and immediately surrender thinking she's a soldier, so from her perspective there's just this massive battle happening while she's gardening and then a bunch of sweaty soldiers tumble towards her and just give up and surrender.

Probably got a lot of it wrong but just thought it was an interesting story.

Wojtek mostly helped with carrying stuff. Since he was a bear, he's was able to lift at least 3x the ammo soldiers could. Also he used to drink and eat lit cigarettes with the boys (although they smoked)
