On December 9, 2020, Starship serial number 8 (SN8) completed a high-altitude flight test as it successfully ascended, transitioned propellant, and demonstrated a first-of-its-kind controlled aerodynamic descent and landing flip maneuver – which will enable landing where prepared surfaces or runways do not exist, including the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

This is Apollo for our generation and a worthy successor to the Saturn V rocket!

These launches were easily the best part of 2020. There’s something so beautiful about witnessing our dreams unfold.

This is so fucking impressive. The engineers behind this should be insanely proud. The fact they're so close makes this one of the greatest technological achievements.

When I watched this live I thought everything was going horribly wrong on ascent when those engines started cutting out. I was so excited to hear later that it was all planned out that way and everything went perfectly until the engines didn't generate enough thrust at the very end. The flip maneuver was so amazing. Unbelievably impressive - it's rare for me to get so giddy with excitement :D. Nothing beats watching those twin boosters landing synchronously from the first Falcon Heavy launch, though. That's the moment where I was like "yep, we're all living in science fiction now." I'm sure I'll feel that again when we get some successful landings from Starship and Super Heavy.

You have no idea of the excitement you bring to us fans and even the general public. Even the non rocket fans stopped still with their jaws dropped. You should all be soooo damn proud of this. True heroes of our time

Was never around for the apollo missions. I consider this as our version and with the amount of coverage of this, I count myself and the rest of this genoration lucky..

Cool. Keep testing, testing, testing. This project is so inspiring to watch in real time.

I'm 65. When I was a kid, I was sure I'd see people walking on Mars someday. By the time I was 30, however, in 1985, I was certain I would _not_ live to see it. *_Now I know I will._* Thanks.

Slightly disappointed that there wasn't a label with "Rapid Unplanned Disassembly" when SN8 blew up
