Thank you SO much for this great video! I was able to find the same piece of equipment (Hyper Tough TD35026B Non - Contact Voltage Detector
) at Walmart for just under $6, and I was able to fix my pre-lit Christmas tree in less than 20 minutes and replace several issues! SO HAPPY!

Thank you! I usually just recycle old Christmas lights that have bad bulbs, but I have a good number of "props" that I really don't want to throw away just because of one bad bulb.

Nice application of the non contact voltage tester. I have one laying around, never even considered using it to see what the deal is with my lights. Cool stuff. I'll get on it tomorrow.

A TIP to viewers ... as an option to this special purpose device I found that a stud finder with voltage detection can be used to do the trick. It will show current across the whole line, but pulse when it is over good bulbs on the hot side. Using my Bosch stud finder I was able to center in on the bad bulb in 30 seconds. I was happy to find a way to put my unused stud finder to work!

So BEFORE you took out the light bulb the voltage detector would not work(it would stop beeping right there), correct ? But when you take out the light bulb it starts beeping, correct? Did I understand this correctly? Please help
