Hello dear viewers! Welcome back to my channel Medico Visuals. Today in this video i have provided an introduction of CEREBELLUM or cerebellar cortex.
Location: Cerebellum is located at the backside of the brain, inferior to the temporal and occipital lobes.
Function: It has no direct control in motor function or motor control. However, its responsible for sequencing of motor functions. It receives guidelines from different areas of Cerebral cortex and receives sensory information from body parts. After this it matches the movements and muscle contractions taking place in body parts with the guidelines provided by different regions of the Cerebral cortex.
Regions of Cerebellum: The central region is called vermis, The adjacent region to the vermis is intermediate zone and the zone next to intermediate zone is lateral zone.
Roles: The role of vermis is to control sequencing of muscle contractions of neck, shoulders and hip. The intermediate zone checks out the muscle motor movements of hands, fingers, feet and toes. The lateral zone is responsible for overall planning of sequencing of motor movements in body. It is connected to Cerebral cortex and receives about, how the intended movement should be.
