The African Development Bank’s 2024 Annual Meetings kicked off on 27th May and will run until 31 May in Nairobi.

Day 1 Side Event: Building resilient African economies in the face of global shocks.
-Organized by the Overseas Development Institute, in partnership with the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and other leading African think tanks like the Economic Research Forum (ERF) and Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP). Supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC).

-Africa faces a compounding series of complex and interconnected challenges stemming from global crises, including the Russia–Ukraine war, regional instability, macroeconomic shocks, and pre-existing vulnerabilities like climate change and food insecurity. These challenges undermine economic, social, and developmental progress, exacerbate fragility, and disproportionately impact marginalised populations.

-To address these interconnected issues, evidence-backed policy responses grounded in the African experience are essential. The impact of overlapping crises is often most severe in the poorest and most fragile contexts.

-Up to 3,000 delegates, including African heads of state, ministers, central bank governors, members of the development community, the private sector, and other stakeholders are expected to attend.
