I just bought new shoes for the winter and the deciding factor ended up being the tread on the bottom. It snows and gets icy here. I already have a bad hip. I don't give a damn how cute or professional shoes look anymore, I'm not falling down because I have no tread.

That said, I worked in a store and i picked up EVERYTHING i saw on the floor. Bits of paper, paperclips, swept up spilled sugar, everything. I thanked people for telling me when they spilled something. Not to avoid a lawsuit but to save people from suffering. Money is nice, but if grandma can never walk again without pain, I'd feel bad.

I just remembered when my family went to a pizza king after church. I decided to wear cowboy shoes to church that day, so i ended up slipping in the most comical way. The floor was bone-dry, and it was an instance of it actually being the full fault of the shoes.

We have one particular restaurant that does not use the correct stuff to wash their floors and this has actually been an issue. I only know because the general manager for said store came into where I worked to buy skid safe shoes and was complaining about it.
