Sunak accuses chancellor of 'fiddling the fiscal rules' | Budget 2024

Former prime minister Rishi Sunak accused the government of "fiddling the figures" and of "not being straight with the British people".

Delivering the Conservative Party's formal response to Labour's budget, it was Mr Sunak's last act as interim leader of the Conservatives.

"Time and again we Conservatives warned that Labour would tax, borrow and spend far beyond what they were telling the country, and time and again they denied they had such plans," he said.

"But today, the truth has come out."

I don't like Starmer and generally lean right, but I'm confused... Historically doesn't Labour lower taxes and Tories raise them? We have growing infrastructure, and failing NHS, failing Police, failing councils... They definitely need to trim the fat but a bit more money in the pot to dig us out the financial hole is necessary? Isn't it?
