Hello,

Before I begin, I just want to say that I’m a fan of the song. It sounds like it was written in the early 90’s, and has a vibrant energy that I can’t seem to find in modern songs of a similar genre.

One small issue, however.

Towards the end of the piece, it can be noted that the main singer claims that “If your counting Smash Bros, Mario can double jump.” While it is true that in all of the _Super Smash Bros._ games, all characters, including Mario, can jump in the air, which is commonly considered to be a double jump, even to the game itself, with the move being called a double jump in the game’s tutorial demo, viewable if one idles at the main menu screen, this would imply that Mario cannot double jump in his home series. In most of the 3D Mario games, (namely _Super Mario 64_, _Super Mario Sunshine_, both _Super Mario Galaxy_ and _Super Mario Galaxy 2_, and _Super Mario Odyssey_ ) if you manage to press A, or the Jump button, immediately after landing from a regular jump, Mario will again leap into the air, but this time higher and with a unique sound and jump animation. If you again press the jump button quickly after landing, Mario will jump even higher and do a flip in the air. A sequence of these jumps is called a “Triple Jump, ” which would imply that a combination just two of these jumps, the initial regular jump and the subsequent higher variant, would be considered a double jump. This move is even possible in the _New Super Mario Bros._ series of games, as the original _New Super Mario Bros._ was intended to bring the 3D move set present in _Super Mario 64_ and _Super Mario Sunshine_ (The galaxy series had yet to release at this point), and the triple jump was considered a staple of this move set, along with the wall jump and ground pound, which also made the transition. The move is harder to execute in the _New Super Mario Bros._ series, as it requires maximizing Mario’s horizontal speed as well as performing the well-timed jump inputs that the 3D variant required, which is hard to do when you can only see a fraction of the distance you could in the 3D games, but it still exists. This means the ending of the song is incorrect. I do not, however, blame you for this discrepancy.

The adlib that started this whole mess at the end of the song seems to imply that you were told by someone you trust, be it a fellow Mario Scholar like myself or someone else, that Mario cannot double jump. You took this in good faith, and, assuming it was correct, included this small addition. You, the artist, did nothing wrong here. I am reminded of the work of Andrew Wakefield, the former doctor who started the “MMR vaccine causes autism” myth in an attempt to sell his own separate Measles, Mumps, and Rubella vaccines to concerned parents (I recommend you watch HBomberGuy’s video on the subject, as it explains this far better than I am equipped to). Do we blame the initial media coverage down by organizations like CNN and the BBC, who reported on a seemingly credible source claiming the potential risks of vaccination, or the parents themselves who were alarmed by this information and decided to withhold their children from vaccination until further evidence had been brought forward? Of course not. Similarly, when you heard from a trusted source that Mario cannot in fact double jump, and as such appended a short one off to the end of the song, you broke no law, violated no moral code, and acted only on good faith. The blame goes to whoever told you of this fact (I assume it was commentary from an ill informed fan of your work, as I doubt that double checking the factual lyrical integrity of an upcoming release is common). I have already written to my colleagues and fellow Mario loroligists, as well as Nintendo in a move to get this person’s Mario license removed, but progress is slow, and updates few.

Rest Assured, this issue will be resolved in a quick and efficient manner, and the world will soon rest easy with the knowledge that this disgrace to humanity, who dared be wrong about something on the internet, will be behind bars.

TL;DR: Mario _does_ actually have a double jump in almost all of the 3D Mario games as well as the newer 2D ones. Whoever made you believe that he couldn’t is wrong, and he is being punished by appropriate authorities.
