Actually you CAN sell these cars after you purchase them. I think the manufacturers require that you wait a specified length of time after the original purchase before you can resell.

Rolls Royce has always been like that.

There is a place in Pakistan called Bahawalpur. Historically, it used to be an independent territory. The story is that the Nawab (the ruler) was visiting England and saw a Rolls Royce and liked it and wanted to buy it. The dealer refused to sell the car to the Nawab because the Nawab was not "white." Rather than arguing, the Nawab walked away, and the next day, he got a white British employee of his go to the dealership and buy all the eight cars for sale there. Once bought, the cars being now the property of the Nawab, the Nawab got the cars shipped back to Bahawalpur. The Nawab kept one car for his own use, and the other seven were given to the municipality to be used for trash collection. When Rolls Royce found out, they sent their dealer to Bahawalpur to apologise to the Nawab and to beg that the 7 Rolls Royce cars not be used for trash collection. 😅
