Over the past four years, the Trump administration put a lot of restrictions on exports to China, squeezed semiconductor industries in both countries hard and interrupted global supply chains strikingly. One month into the Biden administration, the industry has already been looking forward to some positive changes.

Last September, Semiconductor Industry Associate (SIA) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) co-published a “Government Incentives and U.S. Competitiveness in Semiconductor Manufacturing” report, closely analyzed U.S. and global semiconductor industry, as well as forecasted its development in the next few decades. Short after, U.S. president Joe Biden signed an executive order to review bottlenecks and vulnerabilities of global supply chain, implying a possible revision of some restrictions on semiconductor industry applied by former administration.

What does the future of U.S.-China relationship look like? And how would semiconductor industry in both countries be affected? JW Insights invited Jimmy Goodrich from Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) to talk about these important questions.

Jimmy Goodrich is Vice President of Global Policy at SIA, and a member of the Executive Committee for Beijing-based United States Information Technology Office (USITO).
