This is one of my favourite scenes in Fawlty Towers because it shows that Basil is completely insane. He is on his own with a car, no Sybil, no Manuel, no annoying guests and he still loses his sanity and rants at a car and beats the car lol

My dad used to recreate this scene with inanimate objects that caused him frustration. It was funny then, and it's still funny now.

Favorite episode. Left out the funniest part of the guests he was going to meet driving by as he gives the car "A damn good thrashing". Saw Cleese explain this is improvised.

Can relate, closest I came to this was with a stubborn Falcon hubcap that wouldn't clip back in place. Made a good Frisbee, the bad language cathartic and the walk down the paddock to recover said hubcap most calming for the soul. Clipped back into place first go this time.

Got to be honest there were times in the past when I really felt like giving my car the same treatment. The bloody things always pick the most inconvenient moment to throw a tantrum, I empathise with Basil.
