In this small grayscale portrait study, we’ll focus on tonal value (the darkness or lightness of each area), which is the KEY to painting 3D form. In PART 1 here on YouTube, we’ll block in the basic shapes following a simplified reference of only TWO values, which I’ll show you how to mix in oil paints.
