HALIFAX | 4K Narrated Walking Tour | Let's Walk 2022

Join me for a walk around the centre of Halifax, a historic centre of Yorkshire's wool trade, and the home of plenty of spectacular buildings and fascinating stories. Once known as 'Toffee Town' for its famous production of sweets, there's so much to discover even on just a brief walk around Halifax.

On our walk around Halifax, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including the Piece Hall, Woolshops, the Duke of Wellginton's Regiment (West Riding) Statue, Borough Market, The Old Cock, Commercial Street, Halifax Town Hall and Halifax Minster.

I can't believe that people actually considered knocking down the Piece Hall in the 1970s, thank god it was saved! It's beautiful and I'm seeing Korn at the Piece Hall in August, I can't wait! I've never been to Halifax before

Halifax lad born and bred, though moved away 23 years ago, i used to work in the building just up from the Parish church and when it wasn't raining i would have my lunch in the grounds of the church, at that time i was also living above the mechanics right next to the Halifax HQ, it was while they were building the 7th floor and made lying in on a Saturday impossible. Halifax did have a town hall before the current one on Crossley Street, the old town hall was on the corner of Union Street and Westgate, the building is still standing and is now used as an opticians shop. The Town Hall Tavern used to be on the opposite side of Union Street, the tavern was joined with the Westgate pub next door. The Westgate has been closed for many years.

The square chapel is the red brick building next to the spire, the original square church that the spire was part of was mostly demolished. The new library has an impressive window from it incorporated into it.

My old man comes from Halifax and moved to Scotland in the late 70's. When we used to go see my Gran, who lived on Dyson Road late (80's-untill early 2000's), there were always conversations about no go areas for white people in HX. Gibbet street was mentioned, can't remember the other areas names. Is this still happening today in the town?
