The floor is gorgeous! People pay a fortune just to have flooring like that. Don't know why anyone would cover it up. Great job!😊

A piece of trim called quarter round would have finished off that area when the hardwood floors were originally installed. Quarter round was removed to put the tack strips and carpet down. Installing the quarter round molding will cover up the issues.

Wash the floor with Murphy's oil soap to get rid of the residue. Then you can go to Home Depot in the flooring department and ask for "Quarter Round" moulding. Be sure to bring your linear measurement and if you have a loose piece of flooring to match it up for color!! xx

Hi. I love your floors. You did a great job! When I was 10 years old, my grandmother had me pull up her carpet to reveal the hardwood floors underneath. We ended up using quarter round on the gaps. We did allow for the wood to expand and contract with the weather (so allow for a gap, just not as big- lowes or home depot personnel should be able to advise you on the correct size quarter round for your area). One thing to consider-dust. My grandmother's floors required a lot of sweeping. Dust can become extremely slippery. I would definitely invest in something like a swiffer for picking up the dust as opposed to pushing it around with a broom. Another thing to consider- is temperature. My grandmother's house is a ranch model. During the winter her floors were really cold. We ended up putting down area rugs from late fall to early spring. I have heard, but not verified that Habitat for Humanity will come and remove things like old kitchen cabinets, sinks, toilets, and fiberglass tubs for free in exchange for being able to keep what they remove for resale. Yes it needs to be in good usable condition. They are also a good place to go and shop when on a tight budget. Just thought I'd share that possible avenue if you end up renovating a bath or kitchen.

We had that same issue at our first house along the edges. We hand sanded and matched the stain. The gaps we were told to not touch because they are there to let the floor expand in the changing weather and temperatures. I’m amazed you busted that out by yourself!

Quarter round molding between the baseboard and the floor is all you need, the hardest part will be matching the stain because that floor looks like it matches the baseboard perfectly! Best of luck! It’s looking lovely.

I think you can put like a corner (quarter) round down around the edge of the room. It will just add a little bit to your baseboard. It's about an inch wide and will hide the holes and most of the damage. The floors are gorgeous though.

Once you mop and shine the floor really good it’s going to look like a brand new floor!

You’re an inspiration!!

My husband and I are in the process of buying a 110 year old farmhouse that has the WORST carpeting in it and I’m going to be the one that pulls up the carpeting and this helps give me the courage to do this on my own!

I can’t believe you were brave enough to do this by yourself! You’re amazing!

Oh! The floors are beautiful! A good scrubbing should remove all the residue from the padding and edging and you're good to go. Lucky girl to have those floors under the carpet. Our first house was also built in the time where they put hardwoods in and then carpet. That carpet was history as soon as we moved in. I love your house.

Watching you makes my back hurt! I'm not able to do things like that anymore, I'm sitting bound now...makes me sad to watch my life pass by so quickly....love your videos!

Similar situation at my house. I lifted a small section of ugly, wore carpet and underneath was a beautiful hardwood floor as good as new.

Well you just made me believe it's possible to do this in like half a day so thank you, I've never done this before but I bought myself a new bed and couldn't stand the thought of keeping the old carpet. Fingers crossed I can make it happen as fast as possible lol

Wow! You got so lucky with those floors. That underpad was so easy! I have had to take putty knives to floors because the underpad stuck to the floor.

The holes are supposed to be there for the natural expansion and contraction of your floors.
They're necessary.
Shoe molding or quarter round will finish your baseboards. It was removed to put down the furring strip for carpet.
Beautiful original floors!!

I had the same problem when I removed the carpeting throughout my house. What I did was put trim along base boards. Covers where the tack strips were.

I had an old house in Neb. so when I pulled up the carpet had the same problem, but I bought some half rounded quarter molding stained it the same color and tacked it to the floor next to the baseboard molding on wall it looked great and did not have to redo the floor.
