I'm 4th generation italian and 3rd or 4th generation irish. I have great affinity for those countries and cultures. Those places are a part of my identity to this day. BUT, if some shit went down over there, I would not demand that Americans have some responsibility to address those concerns. The same goes for Israel. Candice makes sense.
