Aah these are so many of my favourites! I just read haunting of Ashburn House and it was EVERYTHING. Now I'm glad I picked Horrid for Spring Fling-oween. I totally have to read all these books :)
For those who liked White Smoke, I would recommend a YA book called The Rattled Bones. It's more of a haunted island than haunted house (though there is a haunted house part), but it's a beautifully written book with a social horror element. I loved it so much! I'd also recommend The Broken Girls and The Invited :)

I have yet to be scared by a book. I just listened to the sample audio for When the Reckoning Comes...OMG...Chills! The narrator is superb!

I have to say my favorite haunted house story may not be in book form but the mansion from the resident evil 1 remake. It really gave off a haunting feeling. Wondering through hallways with creaking floors with every step took.
Seeing every journal entry of the residents that came before you set foot in this place. Makes the Spencer mansion itself feel like one giant living entity altogether as it revealed every challenge tossed in your way to slow your progress through the story. Whether you choose chris or Jill's path. =) and I have the sundown motel written down on my books to read list! 😊❤📚

Yes, love Mexican Gothic!! It adds such a unique twist to the haunted house trope. And I've watched the movie for No One Gets Out Alive, so I'm really curious to see how the book compares. 👀

I'm really interested in reading The Good House. It's been on my tbr for a while. The thing that I really love is when horror books end on a sad/bad ending because it just adds to what horror is supposed to be imo.

I think we need more "haunted area" stories that take place in like stores/hospitals/national forests/office buildings etc.

If you liked When the Reckoning Comes you will like the more Antebellum (tw: violence & SA). I thought it was a great movie.
