"There is a right to be resettled under international law," Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing Balakrishnan Rajagopal told the United Nations Human Rights Council as he presented his report 'Resettlement after evictions and displacement: addressing a human rights crisis'.
However, the expert highlighted that many displaced communities are not offered durable solutions. Mr. Rajagopal was speaking on 5 March 2024 at the Human Rights Council's 55th session in Geneva, Switzerland.
