Great life hacks using regular charcoal. There are many non-cooking uses for charcoal. Activated charcoal is best (aka activated carbon) but you can also use lump charcoal or charcoal briquettes for many hacks too. In this video I show how to modify the charcoal to prepare it for a huge test... fighting odor and moisture from trash, dirty diapers and much more! Oh, and yes, it really works! Check out how I put it to the test in a large way as well as some smaller applications / uses.

Used in this video:
* Smash bag made in a previous video project
* Lump charcoal (bag that was going unused so I re-purposed it)
* Mallet / hammer
* Food strainer
* Large bowl
* Zip lock bags

Thank you for this helpful video. Having discovered how great the little pouches are to use and how expensive to buy, I came across this and now have the tips I need. I'll put some in these rained-on cars, etc, but the new thing I want to try is long bamboo "snakes" to put in a few windowsills where the mildew always wins the fight due to the window usually being covered.

Good to know! Banking soda is also very good for smell control, fill a mug with it and put it in the fridge, replace the baking soda from the mug when the fridge starts to smell

Hi and thanks for the video. I just stumbled across your channel as I was searching for ways to remove odors from clothing, vintage items, etc. I just last night went and purchased some pre packaged activated charcoal that came in small boxes and you pull the top off and sit them it storage bins or closets and I from what I have seen it works well, but now after seeing your video my question is, could I have just bought the regular charcoal (like you are using here) and done your method? Is there any difference in the "activated charcoal" and the lump charcoal as far as removing odors go? Thank you again for your video and your reply would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I was wondering about charcoal being used to illuminate the basement holders and never disappear. It does get damp at times when it rains a lot! And smells like cat pee as well! I have bought the little packages online in those little pouches, but that can be expensive for a big room that has a lot of older! Are you saying that I can use regular charcoal briquettes instead of buying expensive kind online? This would be very cost effective if I could just go down to the store and buy a bag of charcoal! However if they don’t have a natural kind without additives, can I still use it? I appreciate this hack & will subscribe to this channel as I’m always looking for better ways to improve my house! On a final note while charcoal hurt the cats or are they likely to eat it, in their litter I mean?

Is this better than rice or salt for dampness in rooms?
Does it work if I use the big chunk of charcoal?

Hi I am doing some research about charcoal as odor absorber... Is there any chance you can suggest to me in using charcoal to Piggeries especially to their manure. Thanks for the help

Hi 👋 I’ve seen all these bamboo charcoal bags on Amazon that states it needs to be set in the sun for at least an hour to get the UV rays to activate the charcoal for absorption of smells… if I make my own and using your method, would it be necessary to leave it in the sun and to periodically “recharge” back in the sun, or is that something else that’s not this? 😅 Thanks for the video and hope to get a reply 😄

Made non activated charcoal.. not as porous as activated so not near as much surface area to trap in odors and things but better than nothing.. like you said though not for filtering things meant for human consumption or wouldnt use it in any fish tank as the media filter otherwise youll have some black smokey water.. lol

Irritating and annoyingly unnecessary music! Why do people dumb down their informative videos by adding music over their words?👎👎
